Associate Professor Wang changcai Spoke in 2017 International Conference for Narrative Study

The 2017 Conference of the International Society for the Study of Narrative was held in Lexington of America during March 23 to 26.Associate professor Wang changcai attended and made a speech in this conference.

International Society for the Study of Narrative is the top-level academic community in Narratology. The annual conference held by it has always been regarded as a big event in academic circles. This conference is hosted by University of Kentucky. There were more than 500 scholars submitted paper abstracts. After a strict examination, 360 scholars were invited to attend the conference. Judith Butler and Linda Williams from UC Berkeley, Kenneth Warren from University of Chicago addressed the conference. Plenty of famous scholars such as Gerald Prince, James Phelan, Brian Richardson, Brian McHale, Marie-Laure Ryan spoke and discussed in their groups.

Associate Professor Wang was in the group“Unnaturally Antimimetic” which was hosted by current president Jan Alber. In group discussion, Wang made a speech namedRevisiting Chinese Avant-Garde Fictions: from a Perspective of Unnatural Narrative Theory. During the conference, professor Wang met and discussed academic questions with the leader in the field of unnatural narrative theory, professor Brian Charleson from University of Maryland. In addition, professor Wang was commissioned to invite some major scholars to write papers by domestic magazines. So the introduction and translation work of narratology’s frontier theory can be promoted. He was also discussed topics of sinology in North America and narratology with Mrs. Yang Lei in University of Pennsylvania.

By listening speeches and discussed with others,Associate Professor Wang learn about the frontier theory and development trends in current academic circle, which will be good at his research and teaching.To some extent, this trip for high-level conference will expand the academic impact of School of Humanities.
